making of: open - dubai pavilion
sneak preview - first impressions
How to built in a desert environment?
OPEN – a public experiential pavilion in Dubai – suggests and promotes an unconventional approach. Powered by two abundant resources of the region – solar energy and salt water – the pavilion establishes its own microclimate through vegetative performance that we graft onto adiabatic cooling.
This naturally breathing, climatic and social oasis is wrapped into a textile and tactile fabric – open to everyone, for experiencing and sharing the sensual and climatic comfort of its interior atmosphere.
This atmospheric space suggests the end of air-conditioning as we know it, to open up for approaches on bio-climatic habitation.
